You try to use the rope to keep everyone together, but the fog seems intent on separating you. The journey has been mostly uneventful, aside from the occasional rumble of distant thunder.





Then! The rope snaps. You glance back, no one's there. You look forward, no one's there either. What do you do next?

I'd call for everyone, and try to follow the rope, or retrace steps...

How long do you look? What if the thunder sounds like it's getting closer, and visibility keeps getting worse? Now it's raining!

If I just stand around, all that's happening is that I'm getting wet. I could at least be productive by spending my time looking still. But if it's really that bad, then I'd go to a location that seems likely for others to go to too, like the manor.

That's what I'd do too, throw in asking for help if they don't turn up anywhere nearby. We're just one person, no way we're covering much ground alone. But, oooh. What if everyone's gone? Now that'd be a situation.

Um... can I ask what this hypothetical situation is for?

With everything that's happened to us so far, don't you think it's a plausible scenario?

I'm psyching us up. Rope's a nice safeguard, and I'm not advocating for us not to take it, but we can't live or die by it! That's all.

I do, but it just felt like you were telling me that it's moot point, somehow. Being prepared is good, isn't it? Plus, it can be good emergency for defensive or offensive measures if it really comes down to it.

It is, it is. I'm just messing with you. Like if you suddenly find yourself in a cliff scenario or need to fish someone out…

But it'd be nice if any amount of preparing would feel like it's enough. Things are almost to the point where it's as if your only option is to take things as they come. That… thing that showed up at the end. I would've thought those would be more commonly found outside, or at least in the tower, not in an athletics building. Go anywhere, expect to be attacked. That wears people down quick.

I've already been in the fishing scenario, does that count?

...I know, though. That there's only so much preparation that can be made. But I'd definitely rather be than not.

Are you worried I'll burn myself out worrying over possibilities before we even run into trouble? Don't worry, I'm not that high-strung.

… We've got plenty of those back home. If they'd been a bit stronger, a bit better prepared… maybe the mission would've turned out differently.

But yeah, you do strike me as the kind of person who shoulders a lot of responsibility. Not that I don't get it—it's hard to ignore when you think about how many younger people there are. It's rough.
